HISTORY

Impulse Power was founded in 2017 by Arne Johannessen and Erik Skaarnæs – two experienced boating enthusiasts with backgrounds in payment solutions, the automotive industry and product design. As active recreational sailors, we saw a clear need for lighter and more reliable alternatives to traditional 5–10 hp gasoline engines. In particular, we wanted to replace the heavy 9.9 hp engine, which often had starting problems and required a lot of maintenance.

 

We wanted a solution that was easy to use, easy to handle, and that started every time – without noise, exhaust or frustration. A search for existing products quickly showed that few motors could deliver on all requirements. This was the start of Impulse Power.

 

We chose to collaborate early on with Golden Motor, a leading Chinese manufacturer of electric motors with extensive experience in mobility solutions. Impulse Power is today the Norwegian importer of Golden Motor products.

 

In parallel, we developed our own battery solutions, adapted to maritime conditions. Together with a European manufacturer, we have developed battery packs based on advanced NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) cells, which combine high performance, low weight and IP67-rated water resistance.

 

To ensure a high-quality, holistic product, we have collaborated closely with Eker Design. The result is electric outboard motors that combine function, reliability and design – optimized for recreational boats in Norwegian conditions.

 

Impulse Power is today run as an efficient and quality-focused company. We develop and test our products in Norway, and offer customer service with high availability and quick responses. Our ambition is to make electric boating a better alternative – without compromise.

 

We believe in the electrification of the sea, and that the transition to smarter and cleaner solutions has only just begun.
