From 1 January 2026, it is no longer permitted to use petrol or diesel engines on Lyseren in Enebakk and Indre Østfold. The change follows from the Regulations on Motor Traffic on Lyseren and means that recreational boats that will use an engine must now have electric propulsion.
What applies now?
The ban on combustion engines applies to all recreational boats, while electric motors are still allowed. Maximum power is 5 horsepower or equivalent electrical performance with low noise and emissions.
You can choose the battery capacity yourself based on how far and for how long you want to use the boat, as long as the engine stays within the power limit.
Jet skis are still not allowed. Exceptions exist for emergency services, regulatory authorities and active agriculture and forestry. The municipality can also grant exemptions in certain cases.

What does this mean for you as a boat owner?

For many, this is a big change. If you have used a petrol or diesel engine for several years, it can feel both unfamiliar and uncertain to switch to electric operation. Questions about range, charging and performance are completely natural.
Many people experience what is often called range anxiety – the fear that the battery will not last as long as you need.
At the same time, the transition is not just about changing the engine, but about finding a properly adapted system that gives you the propulsion and operating time you actually need. With the right dimensioning, most people will find that electric propulsion fully covers everyday use.
When the solution is in place, many notice that the difference is greater than expected.
The boat trip becomes quieter and more relaxing. You avoid engine noise, exhaust and odor.
No oil in the water or local emissions.
Less vibration and lower maintenance make everyday boating easier.
At the same time, everyone else on the lake gets cleaner air, less noise and a more harmonious nature experience.
Electric propulsion not only benefits the boat owner, it provides better experiences for everyone who uses the Lyseren.
How can Impulse Power help you?
The transition to electric propulsion can seem complicated.
The engine must fit both the regulations and the size of the boat. The battery capacity must be adapted to the desired use, and the charging system must function safely and stably in practice.
Impulse Power helps you choose the right solution. We provide guidance on engine selection, battery packs and system setup, so that you get a solution that is adapted to both the boat and how you actually use it. The goal is to find a solution that works well over time.
A well-thought-out electric solution provides predictable operation, good range and a quiet and comfortable experience on the water – while contributing to less noise and pollution for everyone who uses the Lyseren.
